Day 10–9/7/2007

After a 3hr birdwatching guided tour we left for the Daintree.obj140geo57pg11p11
obj143geo60pg11p11obj145geo62pg11p11On the way to redmill house we passed a farmer harvesting his sugar cane. Surrounding the harvester were at least 20 Birds of prey (black kites).



And of course more geocaching.

Day 9 – 8/7/2007

First thing we had to do was pack to leave. The manager allowed us to leave our bags in the office after checkout as we couldn't pick the car up until 1pm.

As you can see the room had everything we needed but still was pretty average.

After picking up the Ferrari we headed for Kingfisher birders lodge (yes it's designed just for birdwatchers). On arrival we went birdwatching and then after dinner we went night birdwatching.
We then got in a little Geocaching

Day 8–7/7/2007

A Day in Paradise at Low Isles


The final day of our organised tour. We were picked up at 8:30 and taken to the boat at Port Douglas.

It was a 1hr trip out to Low isles and once there they ferried us in to the island on glass bottom boats.


The pictures below were taken with an underwater camera we hired. The diver with the turtle is Michelle.

Day 7 – 6/7/07

A spare day so we started by walking into Cairns and hired an underwater camera for tomorrows trip to the Low Isles. We then went to the harbour for a very yummy lunch.

After lunch a little bird watching along the Coast then the Botanic Gardens, Centenary Lakes and finishing up at the cemetery. About 15k's. (lucky we have been walking at home)

Day 6 – 5/7/2007

Champagne Tablelands

It was a very cold start to the morning with a light fog over the lake.
After an 8:30 start we headed for an opal shop for a demonstration in opal work.
This was a busy day as we next went to an old pub to look at the history of Lake Eachem. After this we went to one of Michelle's favourite spots she was lookinf forward to, Crystal Caves. Here you go down a simulated mine where you are shown many different crystals.
To finish the day we went on a cruise around Lake Barine where we found a Amathiestene Python.

Karunda and Atherton Tablelands


We travelled to Kurunda by the scenic rail. The train arrived 30min late due to it hitting a car crossing the line.

At Kuranda we went to the butterfly farm and then pies for lunch.
After the butterflies we were picked up and taken to Tinaroo Dam and the cathedral Fig

Day 3 - 2/7/10

We headed of to the Daintree river via Mossman Gorge. Although we only stayed at the Gorge for approx 35mins it was a good spot to visit and we'll have to come back

After leaving the carpark it was a short walk to a suspension bridge and back along the river.
 
 
 
We then left for a Barumundi lunch and a cruise up the Daintree Riverobj82geo6pg4p11obj87geo88pg4p11

Day 2 - 1/7/07

Up early in the morning to have breakfast at REX's Takeaway.
We then went to the local cemetary (like all tourists) and found our first geocache and an assortment of birds.
obj78geo80pg3p11We then crossed the road and went into Centeenary lakes where we found lots of birds but no crocks.
 
Next stop was the botanic gardens which had "you guessed it" birds. After trekking through the gardens we walked up Mt Whitfield just for the view (and birds and geocache)
 
Back at the Botanical Gardens we had a Yummy lunch and back to our room for home delivery Thai and saddly the second half of the footy.
Oh well to bed early for the Daintree tomorrow.obj80geo82pg3p11

Day 1 - 30/6/07

obj72geo73pg2p11 We arrived at 1:30 after a few drama's at the   airport. They changed the size of the plane and asked us if it was OK for us to change departure time and leave at 4pm. We said no as we wanted to get away and not spend 6hrs at the terminal.

After we finally arrived we walked down the esplanade into town then back for hamburgers for dinner and watch Australia defeat NZ in the union.
